Muskingum County residents who are 65 and older, or permanently and totally disabled, may qualify for Ohio’s Homestead Exemption for property tax relief. Thanks to recent legislation, both the income threshold and exemption amounts have increased for tax year 2025. The income threshold rises to $40,000, up from $38,600 in 2024, and the exemption amount, which reduces the taxable value of a home, increases to $28,000, up from $26,200. Disabled veterans and surviving spouses of first responders killed in the line of duty qualify for an enhanced exemption of up to $56,000, which also adjusts annually for inflation. There are no income or age requirements for disabled veterans and surviving spouses. Current Homestead recipients will automatically receive the increased exemption without needing to reapply. For more information or to apply, residents can contact the Muskingum County Auditor’s office at (740) 455-7109 or visit the website.
